So Virginia has a law that requires females to have a Transvaginal Ultrasound before they have an abortion. The doctor then sticks an eight to ten inch wand inside the female to take a look at the baby. With this procedure the female is not required to look at the baby, this part confuses me. If the female does not need to look at the ultrasound picture, why even do it? If a female is raped and wants to get an abortion, why should she have to go through even more stress of getting a foreign object stuck up in her when she has already had to file a police report and asked personal details about the incident? I feel as though this is wrong and Virginia will find problems within this law.

Well you felt right. Governor Bob McDonnell has actually made amendments to the Bill that practically made the ultrasound optional.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. This type ultrasound is completely out of line and detrimental to females that have been victims of rape and incest. I'm so glad McDonnell has rethought this law because it really would have caused problems for everyone. Personally, I am pro-choice and I don't think a female should be required to do anything like this that might make her re-think her decision. If she wanted to have an abortion in the first place, she must be an unfit mother. I can't imagine anything that is ready to have a child will think of having an abortion. Also, making the abortion process ore difficult doesn't help the teenage pregnancy rate.
ReplyDeleteI hate to be the bad guy, but in my opinion, if you haven't been raped, been through incest, or some dire incident leading to pregnancy, this type of ultrasound should be allowed.
ReplyDeletePeople who choose to have sex when they're not ready, when they're wasted or just horny (sorry for the colorful language) should go through this as a wake up call. When these people decided to have sexual intercourse without/with protection, they should have known what they were getting themselves into. If we continue to let people think that they can have sex without worrying about the consequences, what kind of community are we building? It's also not fair to the women who have been trying all their life but fail to have children. There are many people that would love to care for these illegitimate babies, so why not just give birth to the baby and give him/her up for adoption?
Remington, you posted a picture on facebook showing the process of abortion and it made me feel awful and sick to my stomach. It convinced me I wouldn't want to do that to something I created. I think that's what this ultrasound bill is trying to do and I feel like it will convince that person to rethink their decision.
Sorry to have rambled on your blog, but I believe if you're not ready to take care of a baby, protect yourself or just don't do it at all!
